ABA: Spoof phone calls may direct funds to scammers

Recently, the American Bar Association (ABA) warned attorneys of a scam in which clients are being contacted by phone from what appears to be their attorney’s office and directed to call an 800 number to make a payment.

Unfortunately, the call is not from the attorney’s staff but instead from an individual who was able to trick the caller ID system into displaying the phone number of the client’s attorney.
